How to choose your PG branch and from where to do it?

I have made this post after discussing with many seniors whom I met while my internship. May be you will find this post helpful

General idea:

I have came across three types of people

1. These people are sure about their branch from the very first year. Dont get intimidated by these people. They are rare

2. These people have at least decided that either a surgical or nonsurgical branch

3. These people decide branch on the basis of rank and prioritise different branches according to the institutes, like radio>medicine>surgery

There are still people who are not sure what branch should they pick up.

Don't worry this post is meant for all those. 2nd part of the post is which institutes are good for which post graduate streams

During my orthopedics posting, a JR told me to choose your PG branch according to your personality

Let's see the Venn Purpose diagram

I know an instance where one of seniors got pediatrics and later left it cuz he wanted more time for his passion and personal life.

Medicine:

Two institutes AIIMS, Delhi and Rohtak PGI are considered best for medicine. The reason being AIIMS D is considered best because when compared with different PG branches like pediatrics, JR doing medicine get so much exposure to every higher speciality. For eg. if a peds neuro case comes to the opd then most of the work up is done by specialised people like peds neuro only whereas medicine peeps get to learn a lot. They are kind of boss there, having rotations in higher specialty

Surgery:

Seth GS Medical college in Mumbai is considered as best when doing MS while MCh courses have different preferences.
